The last stop on the three-country tour was Hungary. As the match did not take place until the evening, we made a detour to Pannonhalma to visit the archabbey there. In sunshine and spring temperatures, we then went straight to Györ, where people queued for hours for a ride on a Ferris wheel and sipped ice-cream sundaes in the guest gardens. Crazy for a November weekend...
As they wanted to head back towards Linz directly after the game, this time they went by car to the Alcufer Stadion. Despite the city derby, however, there were parking problems and so they were able to get to the stadium without any problems.
Although the stadium was not nearly full and there was no great rivalry to be felt, the Hungarians seem to take ticket sales quite seriously. Each ticket was personalised and only handed out after showing a passport. Instead of the obligatory stadium sausage, there were only sunflower seeds, which filled up the area.
Gyirmot FC Györ started the match as second in the table and were the clear favourites on paper. But a derby has its own laws and so it was the guests of Györi ETO FC who took command first. The lead through Nemanja Andrics after 10 minutes was well deserved and the lead could have been even higher, but Gyirmot took the narrow deficit into the break.
After the restart, Gyirmot pushed forward more, but clear scoring chances were scarce. So the visitors had to help out a bit, as Marko Vukasovic equalised with a sensational own goal.
After that, both teams pushed for victory and a really exciting match developed. And just when you thought the game would end in a fair draw, Zoltan Kontár gave the home team the lead shortly before the end. Györi threw everything forward once more, but in the end it was not enough to win the point.
