On the way home from Zurich to Austria, we made a stopover in Liechtenstein to pay a visit to FC Vaduz . The club plays in the Swiss championship and is a series winner in the Liechtenstein Cup and thus a permanent guest in the European Cup.
Since 2014, FC Vaduz plays for the second time in the highest Swiss league. In this season, however, he is in current relegation trouble. And the results of the previous day put the club even more under pressure.
The club plays its home games in the Rheinpark Stadium on the outskirts of Vaduz. It is located directly on the banks of the Rhine and also serves as the national stadium for the Liechtenstein national team. The stadium holds just under 8000 spectators, which is more than the city itself has inhabitants. On this sunny Sunday afternoon 4255 spectators found themselves in the stadium - with a population of just under 6000 quite remarkable. Also from Lucerne were some supporters arrived and provided a good atmosphere.
The game itself started immediately with a proper damper for the home side. Pascal Schuerpf used a mistake in the defense and provided in the very first minute of the game for the Lucerne lead. The shock at Lucerne sat deep and so you came only with difficulty in the game. But also Lucerne did not contribute much to the game and so it remained after 45 minutes with this result.
In the second half, however, Vaduz then made more pressure and often came dangerously before the enemy housing. Especially the free kicks were dangerous again and again, but the ball did not really want to come under in the gate. When in the 80th minute also the Vaduzer Maurice Brunner was excluded, the undertaking became much more difficult. The Liechtensteiner now threw everything forward, and Luzern used a counterattack opportunity to 0:2 by Marco Schneuwly.
Somit Vaduz remains at the bottom of the table and must fight hard to continue to play next year in the Oberhaus.
