Ticket & Statistics
For several years now, games in the 2nd Bundesliga have taken place at 13:00 on Saturdays - a time that takes some getting used to. In summer, the midday sun is unlikely to be a pleasure for the players - but the fans have to get through it, too. Especially if you visit a stadium like the flyeralarm Arena in Würzburg, where you look from the standing room grandstand for 90 minutes mercilessly in the direction of the sun ;-)
The stadium in Würzburg is one of the few stadiums in German professional soccer in which there is still a completely unroofed straight and a surplus of standing room. Due to the early kick-off time, we arrived at the stadium just before the start of the game and had to search for a seat in the sector with some effort. We were supported by a friendly steward, who also made the same one on Platzanweiser and looked for us a free Plätzchen.
The stadium was almost sold out - and although the second half of Würzburg is truly no pleasure. After a great autumn, one slipped further and further in the table and is now in the middle of the relegation battle. As an opponent waited Arminia Bielefeld, which are even deeper in the table cellar. A true six-point game in the fight for class preservation. The Kickers took this fight better and were from the beginning the determining force on the field. After 17 minutes then also the deserved leadership by Rico Benatelli. Also then rolled the attacks in the direction of Bielefeld goal, but quickly it became clear that the conclusion today will not be so the thing of Würzburg.
With the narrow leadership it went then also into the break. When leaving the sector, one was then handed a return ticket, without which one could no longer return to the sector. Likewise, when buying drinks, you got an additional chip, without which you beaker deposit not get back. Something complicated, but well, also has its charm ;-)
In the second half, a similar picture, with Bielefeld now tried more and also came to some scoring chances. But the defense stood securely and so ran the 90 minutes from the clock. But when everyone already expected an important home victory, came virtually with the final whistle the appearance of Junior Diaz. A high ball into the penalty area of Würzburg, which would actually be an easy game for the goalkeeper of Diaz in the form of a high arc lamp into his own goal promoted.
The Bielefeld fans were now out of bounds - while the Würzburg were stunned by the points given away. Following the game, they took the streetcar towards the Würzburg Residence to also fulfill the cultural mission of the day ;-)
