2. Bundesliga

Our trip to Germany started in Kaiserslautern after a football-less stopover in Nuremberg. On the agenda was the 2nd division match between 1. FC Kaiserslautern and FC Augsburg. We had put up at the Novotel - which is about 5 minutes' walk from the stadium. Other guests at the hotel included the FC Augsburg team - but the only thing we got to see was the team bus ;-)
After the long journey, the first thing we wanted to do was treat ourselves to a cool blonde beer at the hotel bar. But it was not a treat. There was only Bitburger, and that tastes just awful. So with a heavy heart, we left the drink and went to the nearby supermarket to get something to eat. Supermarket is rather the wrong word here. The shop "Diskont 2000" is probably a mixture between Hofer and Lidl - somehow dubious, but it is enough to fortify oneself sufficiently.
In the stadium itself, you have to buy a card (Betze-Card - as far as I can remember) on which an amount is uploaded. This makes buying food and drinks much easier and faster and is also used in many other German stadiums.
The stadium was well attended for a 2nd division match and the atmosphere was also very good. The wonderful football weather did the rest to make it a nice football evening. Kaiserslautern played the game dryly after an early lead and celebrated a deserved success.
After the game we wanted to look for a pub nearby - but didn't find one. Since the way to the city centre was too far for us and we had to travel on early the next day anyway, we left it at a few drinks at the hotel bar - but this time without Bitburger...
