WM-Qualifikation Europa
Aviva Stadium
Ticket & Statistics
After one had already spent a few days in Dublin and had also already visited parts of the rest of Ireland, the World Cup qualifier Ireland - Austria was now waiting for our 11-member travel group.
But before it went in the direction of Aviva Stadium, one went to Temple Bar to warm up with a few Guinness. Because the temperatures were not exactly spectator-friendly and incipient snowfall was now and then no rarity.
In the center of Temple Bar had already gathered numerous Austrians. To escape the great hustle and bustle, however, one went to a small pub near the Half Penny Bridge to pull the Stouts pure.
Then one went on foot in the direction of Aviva Stadium. The stadium, which was only built in 2010, was already visible from a distance - thanks to the modern lighting. The stadium has a rather untypical horseshoe shape and the special feature is the away fans' stand, which holds only 1 tier behind the goal, while the rest of the stadium is distributed over 3 tiers.
About 2000 away fans created a good atmosphere in the stadium, which naturally increased after the early leading goal by Harnik naturally. Afterwards, however, the Austrians let the game be taken out of their hands and had to go into the break with a 1:2 deficit.
In the second half, there was an open exchange of blows, in which the Irish repeatedly appeared dangerously in front of the goal but could not close the bag. And in the best soccer wisdom tradition, the Irish then got the goal that you do not make yourself. In minute 93. sank David Alaba a shot from the penalty area to the much-celebrated equalizer.
Somit also the point could be celebrated like a victory, which one made then of course also - the one or other Guinness including ;-)
