Starting from Mönchengladbach, it was only a short hop across the border to Eindhoven. So after arriving very early, a check-in was not yet possible. So one had to - or was allowed *g* - to take a seat at the hotel bar. The Gulpener beer sold there was not of the finest variety - but wa solls...
At the hotel bar were also still numerous Swedish Schlachtenbummler of AIK Stockholm present, which had celebrated the previous day a draw against PSV Eindhoven. The let it go also more than well and approved themselves a beer around the other.
After successful check-in in the very nice Hotel Mercure one made a small round by the city. Eindhoven does not belong to the tourist strongholds, but the city with the numerous stores and pubs is quite nice to look at. After one had approved a few Pintjes Jupiler gings with the streetcar directly to the Jan Louwers Stadium.
In the stadium one bought a warm hood at the small fan store, after the temperatures approached but rather the zero point. Then we went to the stadium pub which could also be offered as a VIP club for some Austrian clubs ;-)
Also some fans from Rotterdam had found their way to Eindhoven and made quite appealing support. The home fans were also quite eager to sing - however, one could not understand the fan chants. The language barrier also prevented an interview with the club TV. Although one was chatted up with questions, but ultimately one could only be identified with a sorry as an Austrian ;-)
From the paper form went Sparta Rotterdam as the favorite in the game, they were in third place in the table, while Eindhoven looked from the bottom of the table. But from the start, the home side showed that the three points were not to be taken away from them on this day. The fact that the final score was only 3:0 was due to the poor use of chances. A Kantersieg was quite within the range of possibility.
So one celebrated after the final whistle the clear success of FC Eindhoven. A thoroughly sympathetic club, which would certainly be my sympathies, I would be an Eindhovener...
