Coming from Eindhoven, we made our way to the carnival city of Mainz. There we had accommodated in the Hotel Stadt Coblenz. The hotel is accessible through a bar (!!!) and well suited for an overnight stay. Before one made oneself on the way direction stadium, one looked for still another locality around the hunger to satisfy.
After one had grazed a few side streets, one found a nice wine tavern - the Roten Kopf. Later we should learn from Mainzern that we have done `all right` with this choice *g*. There one got that us up to then unknown `Tannenzäpfle` beer served. Already alone because of the label worth a sip.
The stadium is accessible by shuttle bus starting from the Mainz main station or by bus. The latter, however, only if you also get on the right line. This we did not succeed, and thus one had to still take a small foot march to get to the stadium.
The stadium itself is located on an open field, surrounded by a few dormitories. The newly built Coface Arena doesn't look like a stadium at all from the outside, but it is quite nice to look at. Inside a great, pure soccer stadium that makes every Austrian club pale with envy. At the beginning there was then equal times a red-white-red opening choreography, which let us Austrians of course the heart rise ;-)
The game itself became a clear affair for the Mainz. Szalai did the Hoffenheimers with a triple pack virtually single-handedly. With Baumgartlinger was also an Austrian was in the game. The second Austrian in the ranks of Mainz was unfortunately `unpässlich` according to stadium announcements. Some Mainz insinuated us later that we have probably made the day before with Andi a on - what we of course decidedly rejected *g *.
After the game gings with masses of shuttle buses back to the city. There was actually the plan with a Seidl rally to pave the way back to the hotel. But already in the first local one remained hanging and let with Guinness and Jever beer the evening with a few Mainz supporters finish...
