Actually, we had planned to see the game of the amateurs of Toronto FC (Toronto FC Academy) in the stadium (BMO Field) of the resident Major Soccer Leage Club, but during our flight arrival, the game schedule had changed, so that this game would not have turned out.
Gottseidank carried out the following day also another local club a game. So we set out to see the game of Toronto Croatia against Brantford Galaxy at Lamport Stadium. The game is part of the "Canadian Soccer League".
As the name suggests, the squad, coaching staff and fans are largely made up of Croatian immigrants. The stadium itself is located in the southern part of Toronto and is purely a soccer stadium with 2 stands on the long side. There is no roofing - so one relies on good weather. But since there are probably rarely many people there, that should not be a big problem.
Before the game strolled around the stadium, but there was no reasonable opportunity in the vicinity to still consume one or the other drink. Also in the stadium was not much to see except for a vending machine. After we had paid the nevertheless proud price of 15 dollars for a map we took on the spartanischen seat rows place.
Despite the only scarcely 100 present spectators all players were presented loudly by the extremely motivated stadium speaker individually, before then all spectators and officials from their places rose and the Canadian Nationalhymne sang.
After that, a game started on a rather modest level that could be compared to our national league. Only one player from Brantford was able to please with his somewhat British style of play. Thus, the game rippled along. The only source of amusement was the manager of Toronto Croatia, who was always loudly calling attention to himself, only to be reprimanded by the fourth referee. We believe yes rather him the rules were explained - generally he made more the impression of the manager from the TV series "FC Rückpass".
As then also changed for the 4th time, we already believed in a penalty verification. After an Internet search we had to find out then however that in Canada even five times may be changed. On the game but had no great positive influence.
Brantford won in the end - especially because of the better 1st half - deservedly with 2:1. After the manager had calmed down again, and we had shot our obligatory photo, gings back again. Canada and soccer - at this level rather a bad combination...
