UEFA Europa League
Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
Ticket & Statistics
Years ago, Tottenham had already attended a European Cup match. The resounding victory against Asteras Tripolis was characterised by a treble from Harry Keane, who even had to score at the end of the game. At that time, however, they were still visiting the old White Heart Lane, so this time the newly built Tottenham Hotspurs Stadium was on the programme. The team faced AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League.
In preparation for the match, the team first visited the British Museum in the morning, where they spent two hours travelling through world history. Afterwards, a visit to an escape room was on the programme, which unfortunately could not be completed due to language insiders ;-) Afterwards, we took the underground to the stadium, which was very impressive to see from afar due to its size.
The size was also noticeable in the stadium. Numerous bars ensured that waiting times for drinks were extremely short. A live music duo entertained the spectators even before the match started. Culinary delights were also on offer there - but we had already eaten an old school stadium sausage outside the stadium ;-)
Once inside the stadium, we took our seats high up, which gave us a sensational view of the entire stadium. Unfortunately, the game couldn't keep up with the atmosphere on offer. Alkmaar did little for the game and Tottenham didn't manage much. The first half was completely uneventful and so it went into the dressing rooms with a disappointing 0:0,
The game hardly got any better in the second half either. Tottenham were able to carve out a few chances, but hardly any of them were compelling. The home side's best chance came when Richarlison was awardeda penalty in the 51st minute to give Spurs the lead.
Anyone who thought Tottenham would find it easier now was mistaken - on the contrary, Alkmaar put up a good fight at the end and gave it everything they had. However, they were unable to getmore than a yellow card for David Møller Wolfe .
In the end, Tottenham won a weak game without shining through a penalty. As mentioned above, the first European Cup game had a bit more to offer ;-)
