Since the game didn't start until 17:30, the team went on a short sightseeing tour of Frankfurt before the match. After a view from the Main Tower and a walk through the historic city centre, including the cathedral and Römer, they headed towards the train station. In the railway station district, we stopped off at a pub where numerous Frankfurt fans had already gathered to have a drink or two. So we also had a beer or two in the Moseleck before taking the S-Bahn to the stadium.
After a short walk from the station to the stadium, including a small stop for a bratwurst, we had to wait a little. There was a bit of a queue in front of the entrance to Deutsche Bank Park. However, we were able to enjoy a great view of the time-honoured Waldstadion. In the end, things went faster than expected and we arrived at our seats in time for kick-off.Before the game, there was a birthday choreo by the Frankfurt Kurve, as we were celebrating 125 years of Eintracht Frankfurt.
The start of the game didn't go as planned for Frankfurt. Hoffenheim piled on the pressure and were the dominant team. As early as the 6th minute of the game, John Anthony Brooks scored to make it 1:0 for the visitors - and they kept the pressure on after that. However, the game took a different turn in the 22nd minute and it was once again Brooks who took centre stage. He received a red card early on in the game after an emergency brake, weakening his team.
Frankfurt subsequently took command and Hoffenheim concentrated more on defence. It was Robin Koch who equalised in the 32nd minute. They went into the half-time break with this result. After half-time, Frankfurt were the dominant team and Hoffenheim could do little to counter this. Junior Dina Ebimbe (50') and Mario Götze (64') made it clear who would leave the pitch as the winners.
In the 78th minute, the visitors weakened themselves even further with a yellow card for Ozan Kabak and had to be glad not to lose the game by an even greater margin in the end. In the end, however, it remained a clear 3:1 home win, which would probably not have come about without the early red card.
