About the Club:
Vannes Olympique Club is a French football club based in Vannes, a city located in the Brittany region. The club was founded in 1998 as a result of the merger between two local clubs, Vannes OC and Stade Vannetais. The team currently competes in the Championnat National 2, the fourth tier of French football.
The city of Vannes has a rich history with football, with the first club, Stade Vannetais, being founded in 1902. However, it wasn't until the 1990s that the city had a team playing in the professional leagues. That's when Vannes OC was promoted to the Ligue 2, the second division of French football, for the first time in its history.
After the merger in 1998, Vannes Olympique Club continued to compete in the lower divisions until 2008, when the team was promoted to the Ligue 2 once again. This time, the club had a successful run, finishing in 6th place and securing a spot in the promotion playoffs. Vannes OC then defeated RC Strasbourg in the final and earned a promotion to the Ligue 1, the top tier of French football, for the first time in its history.
Unfortunately, Vannes OC was unable to stay in the Ligue 1 and was relegated back to the Ligue 2 after just one season. The team continued to struggle and was eventually relegated to the Championnat National in 2014. However, the club has been making a comeback in recent years and was promoted to the Championnat National 2 in 2018.
The club's home stadium is the Stade de la Rabine, which has a capacity of 10,000 spectators. The stadium has been the home of Vannes Olympique Club since its founding in 1998.
Some notable players who have played for Vannes OC include French international Abdoulaye Diarra, who played for the club during its successful Ligue 1 campaign, and Thomas Ayasse, who currently plays for French Ligue 1 side Angers SCO.
Vannes Olympique Club may not have a long history compared to other French clubs, but it has certainly made its mark in the country's football scene. With a passionate fan base and a strong team, the club continues to strive for success and promote the sport in the city of Vannes.
