Cefn Druids AFC is a football club based in the village of Cefn Mawr in Wales. The club was founded in 1872 and currently competes in the Welsh Premier League, the top tier of Welsh football.
The village of Cefn Mawr is located in the county of Wrexham, in the North East region of Wales. It is known for its beautiful scenery and for being the birthplace of Cefn Druids AFC.
The club was originally founded as Cefn Druids and played their first matches on a pitch in the village's park. In 1923, the club joined the Welsh National League (Wrexham Area), and in 1930 they won their first league title. The club continued to have success in the Welsh National League, winning several titles in the 1950s and 1960s.
However, it wasn't until 1992 that Cefn Druids AFC joined the newly formed Cymru Alliance, the second tier of Welsh football. The club competed in this league for over a decade, until they were promoted to the Welsh Premier League in 2005.
Cefn Druids AFC has a fierce rivalry with Llangollen Town AFC, another local club in the Wrexham area. Matches between the two teams are known for their intensity and passion, with both sets of fans cheering on their respective teams.
The club's home ground is the Rhysant Park, which has a capacity of 3,000 spectators. The stadium has undergone several renovations over the years, including the installation of floodlights in 2001. The record attendance for a match at Rhysant Park was set in 2017, when 1,820 fans watched Cefn Druids AFC play against The New Saints FC.
Over the years, Cefn Druids AFC has produced several talented players, some of whom have gone on to play for the Welsh national team. One of the most notable players to come through the club's youth system is Andy Dorman, who went on to play for several clubs in England and Scotland, as well as earning 5 caps for Wales.
Today, Cefn Druids AFC continues to compete in the Welsh Premier League and strives to bring success to their loyal fans in Cefn Mawr. The club's motto, "Yn Uned Gyd, Mewn Undeb" (Together as One), reflects the strong sense of community and togetherness that is at the heart of Cefn Druids AFC.
