About the Club:
The History of PAE Asteras Tripolis
The football club PAE Asteras Tripolis, based in the city of Tripoli in Greece, has a rich history dating back to 1931 when it was founded as "Asteras Tripolis Football Club". The club was initially part of a sports club called "Panarkadikos Gymnastikos Syllogos", but in 1952 it became an independent entity and was renamed as "Panarkadikos Asteras".
In 1971, the club merged with another local team, "Panthiraikos", and took on the name "Panarkadikos Asteras-Panthiraikos". However, the merger was short-lived and the club reverted back to its original name of "Asteras Tripolis" in 1976.
It wasn't until 1984 that the club was officially recognized by the Greek Football Federation and was able to compete in the Greek football leagues. For many years, Asteras Tripolis played in the lower divisions, but in 2007 they finally achieved promotion to the Greek Super League, the top division in Greek football.
Under the leadership of current president Giorgos Borovilos, Asteras Tripolis has become a force to be reckoned with in Greek football. In the 2016-2017 season, they made history by qualifying for the UEFA Europa League for the first time in their history.
Notable players who have played for Asteras Tripolis include Greek national team players Nikos Spyropoulos and Dimitris Siovas, as well as Brazilian striker Fernando Cavenaghi.
The home stadium of Asteras Tripolis is the Theodoros Kolokotronis Stadium, which has a capacity of 7,616. The stadium was renovated in 2008 and is located in the heart of Tripoli.
Today, PAE Asteras Tripolis continues to compete in the Greek Super League and has established itself as a strong and competitive team in Greek football. With a devoted fan base and a rich history, the future looks bright for this club from Tripoli.
